Calculate the final value after decreasing any number by a percentage.
Find the final value after applying a percentage decrease.
Try these common percentage decrease calculations
To decrease a number by a percentage, first calculate the percentage of the original value, then subtract that amount from the original value.
For example, to decrease 100 by 20%:
100 × 20 ÷ 100 = 20
100 − 20 = 80
So, decreasing 100 by 20% gives a final value of 80.
Final Value = Original Value − (Original Value × Percentage ÷ 100)
For example, decreasing 200 by 15%:
Decrease = 200 × 15 ÷ 100 = 30
Final Value = 200 − 30 = 170
A percentage decrease can describe either reducing a value by a chosen percentage or measuring how much a value has fallen from its original amount.
If you already know the original and new values and want to find the percentage decrease between them, use:
Percentage Decrease = ((Original Value − New Value) ÷ Original Value) × 100
For example, if a value falls from 100 to 80, the decrease is 20. Dividing 20 by the original value of 100 and multiplying by 100 gives a percentage decrease of 20%.
| Original Value | Decrease | Final Value |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | 10% | 90 |
| 200 | 15% | 170 |
| 450 | 10% | 405 |
| 175 | 30% | 122.5 |
Percentage decreases are useful whenever you want to calculate how much a value will be reduced. Common examples include:
