Calculate the sale price and how much you save after any percentage discount.
Find the final price and how much you save.
Try these common discount calculations
To calculate a discount, first find the discount amount by multiplying the original price by the discount percentage and dividing by 100.
Then subtract the discount amount from the original price.
For example, if an item costs $100 and has a 20% discount:
$100 × 20 ÷ 100 = $20 discount
$100 − $20 = $80 final price
Discount Amount = Original Price × (Discount Percentage ÷ 100)
Final Price = Original Price − Discount Amount
For example, a $200 item with a 15% discount gives:
$200 × 15 ÷ 100 = $30 saved
$200 − $30 = $170 final price
| Original Price | Discount | You Save | Final Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| $50 | 10% | $5 | $45 |
| $100 | 20% | $20 | $80 |
| $80 | 25% | $20 | $60 |
| $200 | 30% | $60 | $140 |
| $150 | 50% | $75 | $75 |
A discount and a percentage decrease use the same basic calculation, but they are usually used in different situations.
A discount normally refers to a reduction in price. For example, 20% off a $100 item gives a final price of $80.
A percentage decrease can describe any value that becomes smaller, such as sales, measurements, costs or quantities.
For general reductions that are not specifically about prices, use our Percentage Decrease Calculator.
A discount calculator is useful whenever you want to quickly see how much you will save and what the final price will be.
